Ersil Jackson was born on May 7, 1889 in Oblong, Crawford County, Illinois. He was the second of the eight children born to Jury and Annie Jackson. Maude Marshall was born on October 12, 1883 in West Salem, Edwards County, Illinois. She was one of two children born to George and Elizabeth (Holloman) Marshall: Maude (born in 1883, and Myrtle (born in 1885). George Marshall died in 1887, and subsequently Elizabeth "Lizzie" Marshall remarried to William Henry McClure (1860-1945) and they had one daughter together, Lottie McClure, born in 1894. Maude and Lottie grew up together as half-sisters, eventually marrying two of Jury Jackson's sons: Ersil Jackson married Maude (Marshall), and Lloyd Jackson married Lottie (McClure). The two couples remained close throughout their lives.
Ersil and Maude were married in Coles, Illinois on June 30, 1911. They lived in Madison Township, Richland County, Illinois for a number of years, where, in 1936, Maude's mother, Lizzie McClure, passed away in Ersil and Maude's home where she had been staying. [As reported by the Olney Advocate newspaper]. By 1940, they had moved to Kennard, Greensboro Township, Henry County, Indiana [as listed in the 1940 Census].
According to the Jackson family historian, Max Jackson, Ersil "was a farmer and a factory worker for Chrysler Corp. They had no children of their own, but they raised Maude's two nieces, Blue Bell and Violet." Blue Bell and Violet Gines were the daughters of Alvin Gines and Myrtle (Marshall) Gines, Myrtle being the sister of Maude Marshall. Myrtle had passed away in 1916 at the age of 31, leaving her two daughters behind. (Violet died at the age of 17 in 1927 and was buried in Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney, Crawford County, Illinois.)
Maude Mary (Marshall) Jackson died on January 8, 1967 and William Ersil Jackson died shortly thereafter on March 16, 1967. They were both buried at the McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson, Hancock County, Indiana.
