Basic Information

Allen Jennings Willig: born in Waukesha, Wisconsin on Jan. 11, 1901; parents and family details unknown. Allen J. Willig died on Aug. 20, 1976 and was buried in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana.

Florence (Jackson) Willig: born on June 16, 1907 near Calhoun, Illinois where her parents, Jury and Annie (Powell) Jackson resided on a farm. Florence (Jackson) Willig passed away on Jan. 24, 2000 and was buried in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana.

Marriage: Allen and Florence Willig were married on Sept. 12, 1926.

Children: Allen and Florence had two children, a son and a daughter. Allan Jury Willig, was born on April 16, 1933 in Bloomingon, Illinois, and Martha Anne (Willig) Gordish, was born on Feb. 27, 1937 also in Bloomington, Illinois.

Our Ancestors' Story [Generations 9/10]

Florence (Jackson) Willig was the youngest of the eight children born to Jury and Annie Jackson. She was born on June 16, 2007 when the family was living on a farm southeast of Olney, near Calhoun, in Richland County, Illinois. Her future husband, Allen Jennings "AJ" Willig, was born on Jan. 11, 1901 In Waukesha, Wisconsin. Florence Jackson met AJ Willig when she was living in McLean County, Illinois and working as a care attendant for an invalid woman in LeRoy, Illinois. The couple married on Sept. 12, 1926 [presumably in McLean County where they were both residing at the time]. They continued to reside in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois for many years; they had a son and a daughter born to them who both attended schools there. Their son, Allan Jury Willig, was born in Bloomington, IL on April 16, 1933 and their daughter, Martha Anne (Willig) Gordish, was born in Bloomington, IL on Feb. 27, 1937. They were both graduates of Normal Community High School in Normal, Illinois. Florence worked for the Utility company in Normal and AJ was a scrap metals dealer. After retirement, they relocated to Terre Haute, Indiana. Allen Jennings "AJ" Willig died in Terre Haute on Aug. 20, 1976 and was buried in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Terre Haute, Indiana. Florence (Jackson) Willig passed away in Terre Haute on Jan. 24, 2000 and was also buried in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Terre Haute, Indiana. Allan Jury Willig was born on April 16, 1933 in Bloomington, Illinois, the son of Allen Jennings "AJ" and Florence (Jackson) Willig. He married Nancy (Willis) Willig, the only child of Carroll and Nellie (Poleski) Willis, born on May 28, 1932 in Bloomington, Illinois. The couple resided in Terre Haute, Indiana where they raised their family of five children: two sons and three daughters, whose descendants form the continuing lineage of their family. Allan J. Willig was an entrepreneur and businessman in both Illinois and Indiana, including real estate and subdivision development. "He loved working so much that he never retired." Allen Jury Willig passed away in Terre Haute on Aug. 28, 2015 and was buried in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana. Nancy (Willis) Willig had passed away in Terre Haute on Sept. 25, 2009 and was also buried in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana.

Martha Ann (Willig) Gordish was born on Feb. 27, 1937 in Bloomington, Illinois, the daughter of Allen Jennings "AJ" and Florence (Jackson) Willig. Her future husband, James Michael "Jim" Gordish, was born in Acosta, Somerset County, Pennsylvania on Feb. 4, 1926, the son of John (1888-1958) and Mary (Sproch) Gordish (1892-1977). Due to Jim's 31 years of military service, Jim and Martha Gordish became world travellers, speaking multiple languages and raising their children in multiple countries. Two daughters and one son were born to them, whose descendants form the ongoing lineage of their family. Jim passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 14, 1973 only a few years after he retired from the military. He was buried in Highland Lawn Cemetery in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana. Martha continued to reside in Terre Haute and raise their children, working as an accountant and serving in civic organizations such as 4-H Clubs, Girls' and Boys' Scouts, etc. Martha Ann (Willig) Gordish died in Terre Haute on April 1, 2019 and was also buried in Highland Lawn Cemetery in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana.
